"Battle Gear"

Monday - Infallible Refuge

Psalm 46:1-2

"God is our refuge and strength." The life that is "hid in God" is surely as safe as God can make it. The eternal spirit of man needs the "Eternal God as a refuge." To hide in God, is to hide in His love, and in His mercy, and in His Power. This means not only perfect safety, but also perfect self-abandonment to God, to His will and work. This infallible hiding place is ours for our surrender to our Lord. Though soldiers work to avoid surrender, surrender is required to benefit from the refuge that only God can provide. Have you waved the white flag "for salvation?"

Father, as the battle rages around me, please allow me to hid myself in You. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Tuesday - Unshakable Confidence

Psalm 46:3-4

"Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed ..." What has the moving of the earth to do with the soul that is dwelling in God? His house is built on the eternal Rock, therefore the rain, floods, or winds of this world cannot shake it (see Matthew 7:25). The Lord, in whom we trust, is "Mightier than the noise of many waters." Let not the noise of the world’s confusion drown this sweet note of restlessness. The uncertainty of this world calls for a confidence in a power that is sure. Our Lord admonishes us to fear not, for He had already overcome the world. As we reside in Him, our confidence must be in Him, for He loves, forgives, and protects His own. Where do you palce your confidence?

Father, it is so easy to say, "In God We Trust," but help me act out the words I say. Help me place my confidence in You. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Wednesday - Infinite Supply

Psalm 46:4

"There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God." New rivers of delight flow out of the soul that has found its refuge in God; they drink now of "the river of thy pleasures" (see Psalm 36:8). They are led by the still waters of God’s thoughts, and are refreshed and strengthened by the living streams of eternal truth. The supplies for the new man are found in his new hiding place. An army must maintain its supply lines. In our battle we are no different. We need to maintain our connection with the source of eternal life as we fight this battle against the devil. God supplies all we need to endure and succeed against the principalities and evil powers of this world and age.

Father, please insure that as I submit to You, I am supplied, from Your supply, those items I need to fight. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Thursday - Unfailing Comfort

Psalm 46:5-7

"God is in the midst ... God shall help ... He uttered His voice ... The Lord of Host is with us" God’s abiding presence is our constant protection, and guarantee of rest in service. When God, by His Spirit, is in our midst, and when He speaks, the earth, and the things of the earth melt. We can rest in the assurance that He who has created the world in which we live, also controls that world. He speaks and the world responds, He points and things change. This fact gives us a comfort that surpasses all that this world can give. Is God in the midst of your world?

Father, Your relationship with the world and with me provides a comfort like no other I have known. For this I am thankful. In His name, Amen

Friday - Assured Prospects

Psalm 46:8-9

"Come behold ... what desolation He hath made ... He maketh wars to cease..." Here is a backward look and a forward view. God has made desolation of the works of men and the ways of the past, and He will yet break, and cut into pieces, the instruments of destruction, and make wars to cease, unto the end of this age. The angels sang at the birth of Christ, "Peace on earth and goodwill among men." This will yet be perfectly fulfilled at the coming of the King. As you look into an uncertain future, now that the promises of the Lord are assured. The songwriter wrote, "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!" With that prospect, we can live assured. What can you claim as your own?

Father, I thank You for the assurance of knowing that You still rule and super-rule. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Saturday - Peaceful Attitude

Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God." Only those who have faith in God can possibly be still, when circumstances are apparently adverse. But it is this stillness of the soul that we learn to know God. "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:7-15). Stand still and see the salvation of God. Stillness is not easy, and yet it is in the peaceful state that man meets his Lord. It is in the quiet of the soul that God can communicate best with His children. Momma used to tell us, "Be still!" It was in this attitude, she directed us best. God uses the same method.

Father, help me to be still in the hustle and bustle of this age. I need to meet You in peace. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Sunday - Victorious Result

Psalm 46:10

"I will be exalted ... I will" The Lord above shall be exalted in that day, when He becomes the Refuge and Strength of His people. It is so now, in our individual experience; it will be so then, in His coming kingdom, when He shall be all and in all to His own. By virtue of our surrender and subsequent salvation, we have already experienced the victorious results of the first coming of Christ. His return will usher in another realm of victory and we shall benefit from His return as well. The new refuge, and the new strength will be eternal, without end. Are you preparing to meet Him?

Father, I have read the end of the Book. We won! In His name, Amen
