Monday - Wait Prayerfully
Psalm 25: 4-5
Prayer is the primary line of communication between the Lord and His people. It would seem that prayers would travel at a speed that exceeds the speed of light, because after all, this is God. However, the speed is not the issue. David is desirous of ascending to the throne that is rightfully his, but Saul stands in his way. God can make a difference immediately, but doesn’t so David has to wait. Instead of complaining about the timing he asks for direction and leadership and prayerfully waits for the Lord to move. Are you in this condition now? Have you been there? By prayerfully waiting, we allow God to move in His own powerful way. Hang tuff!
Father, I realize that my timing is not Your timing, so please help me to wait in prayer. In the name of Jesus, Amen
Tuesday - Wait Patiently
Psalm 37:7
David, again, focuses in on waiting. He begins by admonishing us to "Rest in the Lord, ...!" In order to rest, one must take a load off and relax. God allows us to rest in Him as He goes about taking care of business for us. Can one use the words "wait" and "patiently" in the same sentence? Actually, yes, because there is fretful waiting where an individual is not resting, but pacing, and then there is patient waiting which involves a relaxed manner. In our microwave world, waiting is the most beneficial way to react. Remember that a meal cooked the old fashion way tastes better than a microwaved one. A blessing waited for is more beneficial than a microwave one because God doesn’t microwave.
Father, help me develop the kind of patience needed to wait on You to act. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Wednesday - Wait With A Single Mind
Psalm 62:5
Waiting with a single-mindedness is another difficult task in this world of multi-tasking. We must develop the ability to focus on what is before us in a divine sense. How many times have we allowed the enemy to distract us from a prayer position in his effort to deprive us of the blessing we were waiting for? How many times have we shifted our focus because we believed we were being wasteful with our time and energy by being single-minded? Single minded focus is what allows God to frame out thinking as He provides those things we ask for and are waiting for.
Father, help me make my mind laser-like in focus as I wait for You to move in my behalf. In His Name, Amen
Thursday - Wait Expectantly
Psalm 123:2
All too often we wait on the Lord in a mechanical fashion. This Psalm points to the fact that many servants and maidens look, wait, with an attitude of expectation. How many times have asked according to the prescribed process; settled in to wait and waited half-heartedly, not expecting results? It sort of like asking for a pony for Christmas, but not really looking forward to receiving it. We sometimes react in this way when we ask for things we are not sure of, or when we ask for things we don’t believe God can, or will, provide. We need to learn to ask, according to His will, and expect. Israel is still waiting to be delivered. After all these years, but they wait with expectation.
Father, show me how to wait with the proper level and quality of expectation. Only You can help me achieve this. In the name of Jesus, Amen
Friday - Wait Longingly
Psalm 130:5-6
How badly do you desire that which you are waiting for? This fact helps determine the quality of your waiting. If we truly long for, desire, expect and hope for a thing, the waiting takes on a new perspective. Waiting must be understood as a act that is not always sitting and doing nothing, but rather an act of preparing for that which we long for. What is the nature of your longing? Look at the state of your preparation. What is the depth of your longing? Analyze the nature of your preparedness. When we truly long, the wait may be long, but not tortuous. Wait on The Lord!
Father, help me stay busy preparing as I wait. In The name of Jesus, Amen
Saturday - Wait Quietly
Lamentations 3:26
Shhhhh! Too many believers wait in the midst of noise and commotion. Far too many are the cause of that noise and commotion. In Psalm 46:10, the writer admonishes us to "be still and know that I am God." It is in the quietness of our lives that God shows up. These are the times when He helps us sort out the details of our waiting and rearrange our thinking. The nature Jeremiah’s ministry forced him to hope and wait in a quiet condition. He needed to insure the voice he followed was, indeed, the Lord. His many imprisonments and trials gave him time to consult with the Lord as he waited to be freed. We, too, are imprisoned and need to learn that waiting quietly brings tremendous results.
Father, my body can be chained, but my faith and hope, and ability to wait for You cannot be deterred. In His name, Amen
Sunday - Wait Continually
Hosea 12:6
Israel has had a problem maintaining God’s precepts and find themselves in a state that is not really positive. Hosea admonished them to keep mercy in focus, and understand the nature and cause of God’s judgment and then wait patiently for the promise. Mercy and judgment seem to be unlikely partners in the waiting process but each has its purpose. We need to know that Israel was promised deliverance from it earthly enemies, but even the prophets knew that deliverance would be a long time coming. Hosea and his counterparts preached a waiting that would have to be continual because of the timing of God. Just because it doesn’t happen today doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen. Lil’ Dipper says, "delay is not denial!" Father, in the midst of waiting, help me increase my capacity to wait. In the name of Jesus, Amen
