Character of the Offering: Much depends upon the character and the manner in which the offering was resented. We must observe this offering see that it was:
Monday - Of Fine Flour
Leviticus 2:1
Flour is a product of earth, and may refer to the kinship of Christ with man. It was fine flour. Though He was truly human He was entirely free from the bran of carnal-mindedness. There was no defect, no coarseness of passion or feeling, all was perfectly even and sincere. We must recall, at all times, that Jesus did not allow Himself to become entangled, or mixed with, the ways of the world. He maintained His "fine flour" condition through fasting, prayer, and obedience to His Father’s directives. At what level, or coarseness, do you live?
Father, give me an indicator to help me determine my condition each and every day. In the name of Jesus, Amen
Tuesday - Mingled With Oil
Leviticus 2:4
Oil is an emblem of the Holy Spirit. As the flour was mingled with oil, so the presence and power of the Holy Ghost permeated every act and thought of the Savior. The process of mingling the human and the divine is a great mystery. Great is the mystery of Godliness. What does God expect to gain by mixing His Spirit with our Spirit? His goal is to re-create the being He placed in the Garden by re-introducing that same Spirit that made him a living soul. Without this offering, we are eternally lost, but with this offering, and its power on board, we have a chance to gain eternal life. What are you mixed with?
Father, help me to see that with which I am mixed, and help me understand its purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Wednesday - Anointed With Oil
Leviticus 2:1
Oil in it and oil on it suggests the twofold truth of the indwelling and anointing. The Holy Spirit in us for guidance and teaching, on us for power and service. The Holy Spirit was in Christ from His birth, it was on Him after His baptism at Jordan. So He is in us from our new birth, and on us from the day of our entire consecration to the service of God. A Christians, having received and accepted the Holy Spirit, we enjoy an "in us" relationship. This condition allows us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to a Holy God. Its on you, and He’s in there!
Father, thank You for knowing my nature and preparing an offering in me that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Thursday - Covered With Frankincense
Leviticus 2:2-16
The frankincense was "a sweet savor unto the Lord," and speaks of the satisfaction God finds in a Spirit-possessed and Spirit-anointed life. The life of Jesus was lived in and by the power of the Holy Ghost, and so it well pleasing in His sight. The frankincense had a preserving quality. It allows us to exist in the presence of spiritual decay. It was the spice that was folded in with the wrapping linen of Jesus to insure His physical body lasted as long as possible. The spiritual frankincense that we receive allows us to "last" until that day when Jesus returns for His own. Smell the frankincense? You should.
Father, allow me to exist in the covering of eternal life with You. In His name, Amen
Friday - Baked In The Oven
Leviticus 2:14
Remember that we are comparing the "Burnt Offering" with the mission of Christ, who in turn passed that mission on to the Christians. The green ears of corn were dried by the fire and beaten out. The fire and the beating are most suggestive emblems of the sufferings of Him who was the Holy One, yet the "Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief." He passed through the oven of fiery heat in the garden of Gethsemane. The Shepherd was sorely smitten, He was made a perfect meat-offering through suffering. "Ours were the pangs He bore." Our lives will be complete with the same trials Jesus endured if we desire to be His followers. In following, we make ourselves "offerings" as He did. Think about, "Just like Jesus!"
Father, I thank You for allowing me to walk in the footprints of Your Son, Jesus. In His name, Amen
Saturday - No Leaven, No Honey
Leviticus 2:11
Leaven as a type of sin represents the secret workings of deceit and corruption. Honey may symbolize the flattery and applause of men. Jesus Christ was unmoved either by the one, or the other. There was no guile in His mouth, He could say, "I am the Truth." How often do you give to the Lord, whether it be material, spiritual, or personal with expectations of carnal reward? How often do you give unto God for the sole purpose of winning the approval on man? This sin (leaven) will surely garner you the applause (honey) of man, but it will not win the approval of God.
Father, help me to know that only what I do for You will count, and last. In the name of Jesus, Amen
Sunday - Food For The Offerer
Leviticus 2:10
A portion of this offering was given to Aaron and his sons. "It was most holy." It was the Bread of God and also of man. It takes the most holy to satisfy the heart of God and the soul of man. It became the food of the offerer only after he had offered it to God. Christ can only satisfy our souls as we present Him to God as our Substitute, and plead the merit of His precious Name. God will not have us to feast our souls on less than that which has brought infinite satisfaction to His own heart. Giving to the Lord is the only giving that brings a return greater than the gift. When you give, and He gives, His gift will always be larger. Thanks be to God!
Father, Help me to give as You have given. In Jesus’ name, Amen
There are a total of five offerings required of the Jews. They are the Burnt Offering, the Peace offering, the Sin Offering, the Trespass Offering, and the meat Offering. We will examine the rest in the future
